What is it about horror books and movies that chill us to our cores? Why is it that every Halloween we love dressing up as our favourite mass murderer? What is the appeal of Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger and Jigsaw that fascinates us so? And how do we write one with the same kind of appeal? Is it possible?
Of course it is, and I’m here to give you the recipe to write the perfect Serial Killer:
- 2 Cups of Unpleasant Back-story
Every serial killer has a horrifying back-story that made them that way, from being bullied in the most horrible way, being abused as a child or getting into a cult, the terrifying back-stories are endless. Be specific in why your killer is as twisted as he is. Unless they’re, say, Michael Myers from Halloween, who was just born crazy, apparently.
- 3 Tablespoons of Crazy-as-Shit
